Canton Mountain Home

Nestled atop Canton Knoll, this 360 degree venue provides this skyline residence with endless views of the Blue Hills Reservation and the City of Boston. The home itself is a series of shifting planes that allowed the design to capture the tension between both the natural and the man-made landscapes. These sweeping views from north-easterly to south-easterly frame animated views that change with every season and are full of wildlife; creating pleasurable experiences for hours. The connection to the land is present within every space of the home. From the library’s tree fort essence to the projecting mountain view of the master suite.

Mountain Home

Laurel Ridge

An Adirondack inspired retreat in what we like to term "new regional vernacular" is nestled in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Inspired by framed views and the natural hilltop setting this design seems to erupt out of the bedrock itself, while softening the lines with sloping shapes and natural materials. The interior spaces were developed using additive and subtractive methods that capture the maximum view and sunlight while scaling themselves to the more intimate settings of the spaces inside & out. The great-room, or the heart of the structure, is reminiscent of a cathedral with vaulted ceilings and exposed heavy timber framing that focuses toward a monumental prowed glass wall and clerestory. Currently under construction.

Cashiers Mountain Retreat

Quieto Beach House

The client purchased this beach house with the intention of it being a quick flip and rental property. The home itself is classified as an existing non-conforming structure which can prove to be complicated in the design process depending the design aspirations of the client. 
As the project developed, our client wished to create a beach house for himself and family. JFF Design worked through the various ideas and successfully obtained the many approvals required after creating this highly detailed beach home with wonderful ocean views.
The interior ground level provides an open and uninterrupted living room and dining space. The project is finally underway and hopes to be completed mid 2020 for the upcoming beach season!

Marshfield Beach House

Orgat Residence

Demolished to its foundation walls, the Orgat Residence was an opportunity for JFF Design team to address key issues that had been overlooked in the first design and construction of the home. The design and completion of the home ran in two phases. The first phase addressed parking situation on a steeply sloped site, while the second phase dealt with the complete redesign of the home.
Nestled within the traditional neighborhood vernacular the design team paid close attention to any detail that could be pulled from the variations of heights and sight lines within the existing lot. A series of horizontal lines offset from the homes’ massing helped to blend the residence back  into the existing landscape. A standout feature of the home’s design is an observatory like space within the master bedroom. The space projects outward to engage a powerful view to the west, while providing shelter to the study’s roof deck below.

DeJulio Home

Project Overview
Six thousand square foot, Five Bedroom, Waltham, Massachusetts

The intent of this design was to fuse traditional ideals in a modern approach. The traditional forms of the exterior were arranged in a new modern vernacular intended to bridge the gap between the familiar and the contemporary. The arrangement of spaces are an attempt to maintain a strong sense of family while providing the comfort of individualism.

This home was originally design with a brick facade to meld within the fabric of the neighborhood. A later change to stucco proved to be remarkable contrast resulting in the accent of form within the facade.


Exterior Front

On the largest parcel on the Bonnet Shores of Narragansett, RI sat a charming home that was in need of an extensive addition renovation overhaul for its’ new homeowners. The existing home was not big enough to meet the needs of a family of five. Used as a vacation home, the small home did not want to have large spaces that would threaten its charming character or over develop the site. So JFF was set with the task of creating a comfortable scale for the new addition; a scale that would fit everyone in the family and include spaces full of detail and functional.  

This project was featured in the February issue of Builder / Architect magazine 2011!

Hilltop Beach House

Belmont Custom Home

This home is nestled within the quiet Belmont Hill neighborhood originally constructed in the early 1960′s and in need of dramatic updating. We determined the house was sited correctly to the lot but not necessarily to the street. We focused on developing the living spaces allowing for large family gatherings. This family of six each appreciates their own space within this major addition. The challenge on this type of sloping lot is to provide adequate space without overbuilding the structure. The series of sloping ceilings in the upper story provides dynamic spaces suitable for bedrooms and expressing creative windows that provide animation through natural light.
