Murphy Residence

Constructed in 1952 this split level home has remained true to its style of floor levels staggered around two short stairs. One stair leading down to a basement with garage access; while the other running upward to a bedroom level. Where the two stairs meet is the common living space which includes an outdated kitchen and traditional living and dining room.

Upon sitting down with the Murphy family three design goals became clear for the project. The desire for a master suite, the desire to revisiting the layout of the common spaces an update the layout to an open floor plan, lastly the desire to connect home (place) to yard (site)
