Type: Pond View Loft Renovation; Scope of Work: Two-story loft renovation; Style: Modern Lake House; Location: Canton, Massachusetts; Year Completed: 2008
This project provided the opportunity to work primarily within the context of a confined and set interior environment. In focusing on the view to the pond the design developed an open experience within a narrow space on multiple levels. Staggering views to a local Canton pond provided the inspiration for this loft style design.
The highlight of this project is the primary staircase. The floating stair case became a major design feature; when collaboration between client an architect took place. It was the clients desire to have an unobstructed view to the pond as they move throughout the space. The solution was stair that detached from the wall and was supported by a central spine at the top and bottom; a glass railing was then attached to the treads and secured as a structural cantilever element.
